Gavin McManus BDS MFDS RCS(Ed) DipImpDent RCS(Eng)

Gavin graduated from the University of Manchester in 2004 with distinction and was awarded the Charles Preston Medal for his performance in his final examinations, as well as the British Dental Association prize for the best overall performance throughout the final year.

Following completion of vocational training he undertook two years general professional training within the North West Deanery; During this period he passed his diploma for Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

For ten years Gavin worked as a Middle Grade in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Pennine Acute Trust treating a wide variety of oral surgery cases combined with mentoring of junior colleagues.

He now treats oral surgery referral cases in primary care under both local anaesthetic and IV sedation. Gavin’s other surgical interests lie in the restoration of patients’ dentition with dental implants. He has completed a year-long course in implant dentistry with the Centre for Advanced Dental Education along with the gold standard of implant diplomas with the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners and the Royal College of Surgeons England. The Faculty have invited him back to lecture to the new Diploma Cohorts. He has also lectured and acted as a mentor for the University of Manchester postgraduate MSc in dental implantology. In 2016 Gavin co-authored an article on implant dentistry for the British Dental Journal.

Away from dentistry, Gavin enjoys nothing more than spending time with his wife and two young children. He is a keen sportsman and enjoys fell running in the nearby Peak District.
