Crowns, inlays & onlays

What are inlays and onlays?

An inlay is a small filling that fits into the biting surface of a tooth while an onlay covers a larger area of the tooth and is better suited to bigger cavities. Made from tooth-coloured porcelain, or composite, they give the restored tooth a more natural look.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is an artificial tooth that fits over the remaining part of a damaged tooth making it strong and returning its natural tooth shape. Dental crowns address aesthetic needs, restore tooth function and enhance the overall health of your mouth.

A dental crown could be used for several reasons, they are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been damaged or weakened by decay or a very large filling, you may have had a root canal filling which will need a crown to protect it or a crown may help hold a denture firmly in place.
